Victorian Pennant
There are a number of pennant competitions conducted in Victoria ranging from junior to open age and seniors. Further information can be found below.
VIC Pennant
Men's and Women's Pennant enjoys a rich history within Victorian golf, with both competitions dating back over 100 years. Seven player men's and women's Pennant teams represent each participating club across an eight week season (including finals).
Youth Pennant (formerly Colts Pennant) commenced in the mid 1950's and was for male players only aged under 24 as of 1 January of the competition year. In 2022, the competition was re-named Youth Pennant, with women aged under 24 years of age also eligible. The introduction of women provides an additional playing opportunity for young female golfers. Each team consists of five players.
Friday Women’s Pennant commenced in 2009 with the move of Women’s Pennant to a Sunday competition. Originally known as Women’s Metropolitan Match Play, this competition was renamed in 2015.

VIC Senior Pennant
Senior Pennant (55 years and over) is played throughout Victoria. In the Melbourne metropolitan area, as for Junior Pennant, it is played on a regional basis rather than in across-the-metropolis divisions as applies for Men’s, Women’s and Colts Pennant. However, unlike these competitions, which are centrally organised by GA, each Senior Pennant competition is organised by the groups of clubs involved in the particular competition.
Senior Pennant competitions are either played ‘off the stick’ or as handicap match play competitions. The three non-handicap competitions are the Ron Budge Trophy, the Peter Thomson Trophy and the Yarra Courses Senior Pennant. Information about each of these competitions is as follows.
Ron Budge Trophy
The competition commenced in 1999 and the current clubs are Cranbourne, Keysborough, Ranfurlie, Rossdale, Southern, Spring Valley, The National and Woodlands. This competition is played on Fridays, commencing in October.
Peter Thomson Trophy
The competition commenced in 1996 and the current clubs are Commonwealth, Huntingdale, Kingston Heath, Metropolitan, Peninsula-Kingswood, Royal Melbourne, Victoria and Yarra Yarra. This competition is played on Sundays, normally commencing in October.
Yarra Courses Senior Pennant
The competition commenced in 2004 and the current clubs are Chirnside Park, Eastern, Green Acres, Heidelberg, Kew, Latrobe, Rosanna, The Heritage and Yering Meadows. This competition is played on Fridays, commencing in late January.
