Order of Merit
The Golf Australia Order of Merit (GA OOM) provides players the opportunity to track their performance based on results from particular Australian events, and is also used for various event exemption categories. Events in each state are selected as OOM events, encouraging Australian based golfers to travel within their state, or interstate, to accumulate points towards a season total. The GA OOM is calculated via a points system, which awards points according to the player’s finishing position in an event. The total number of points allocated, based on the "weighting" of an event, is at the discretion of Golf Australia, and items such as the strength of the field is considered. The GA OOM year commences on 1 November and concludes on 31 October each year, unless otherwise stated on the pages below. Please contact golfoperations@golf.org.au for any GA OOM queries. The World Amateur Golf Ranking was first introduced for men by the R&A in 2007. The women’s rankings first started in 2011. Today, the WAGR is based on the results of over 2,600 amateur tournaments per year. The rankings are based on the players' average performances in counting events over a 104-week rolling period. The WAGR enables elite amateurs the opportunity to benchmark themselves against other players across the globe.
From 2020, the WAGR will be determined by a new system called the Power Method which aims to better reflect the current performance of golfers. In the new structure, every event in the world will earn a Power number based on the strength of its starting field which will then determine the total number of ranking points on offer to the field.
Scott Arnold, Brady Watt, Curtis Luck, Su Oh and Minjee Lee are the only Australians to date that have spent time ranked first on the WAGR.
