Women & Girls in Golf Careers Showcase: Meet your panellist, Annika Boyd
by Patrick Taylor
The New South Wales Women and Girls in Golf Careers Showcase held next week at Cypress Lakes Golf Club will highlight the exciting golf career opportunities that exist for all women, regardless of their career stage.
The panel consists of women who have thrived in the golf industry, across varying roles, highlighting that a career in golf is for everyone.
Joining the panel in NSW will be Annika Boyd. A lifelong golfer, Annika works as Juniors On the Move Coordinator and Social Media Coordinator at Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG).
Part of a highly skilled family, with her brother Darcy Boyd and his partner, Danielle Vasquez both professional golfers, Annika herself has plans to turn professional next month. Her first event as a pro will be the Webex Players Series South Australia at Willunga.
Almost two years into her role at JNJG, Annika loves that she can work for and give back to the same junior program that helped foster her golfing passion at a young age.
“I played in a lot of Jack Newton Junior Golf events from the age of 11 until I was too old to play the events anymore,” Annika said.
“I had such a great time at the events, and it was really fulfilling to develop my skills and be supported by my peers around me, and also support them.”
Now part of the team facilitating these programs, Annika enjoys seeing children and families form relationships with other likeminded people, and the growth of young golfers.
“The Juniors On the Move program is a nine-hole program designed for our entry level juniors looking to take skills they have developed on a driving range, onto the golf course with children of a similar age and ability,” she said.
“We currently have almost 440 children registered in the program across New South Wales and the ACT.”
Empowering girls and women and providing them with the tools they need to make educated career choices is at the heart of the Women and Girls in Golf Careers Showcases. They aim to demonstrate that a career in golf can lead to amazing opportunities, a sentiment that Annika shares.
“Relationship building is a really beautiful skill and connecting with people in our industry opens your eyes to how diverse each career in the golf industry can be,” she said.
“From travelling across the country and the world, networking with new and exciting people, watching athletes achieve their goals and so much more. It is a fulfilling industry to work within.”
