With enough rounds contested prior to the COVID-19 interruptions earlier in the year, Amelia Whinney from The Grange Golf Club and Jordan Percey from The Vines Golf Club of Reynella have won the 2020 South Australian Junior Vardon Order of Merit.

The Junior Girls Vardon OOM was a new addition to the schedule this year to align with that of the Boys Vardon OOM which has been running since 1981.

Whinney, 17, won the inaugural trophy with a stroke average of 71.0 over 13 rounds.

Percey, 17, has etched his name onto the trophy for the first time with a stroke average of 70.00 over 15 rounds, narrowly nudging out Nicholas Siegmund from The Grange Golf Club by 0.44.

The Men’s and Women’s Vardon Order of Merit was not awarded in 2020 due to Covid-19 event cancellations.

In the Senior Men’s Order of Merit, Steve Ross from South Lakes Golf Club won both the Senior OOM (ages 55 to 64 years) and the Nett Order of Merit. Michael Richards from Tea Tree Gully Golf Club won the Super Senior OOM (ages 65+).

2021 will see the introduction of a SA Senior Women’s Order of Merit which will be a welcome addition in complementing Golf Australia’s Vision 2025 promoting women and girls in golf. This will also bring a second National Senior Women’s Order of Merit event with The Grange and Kooyonga Senior Amateur being granted National Senior OOM status for both men and women. The event will be played in early September in the lead up to the South Australian Senior Amateur Championship.

2021 will also see all state and national order of merits played under the same points format.

The 2021 Men’s & Women’s Vardon OOM kicked-off with the Robe Village Classic played in November with the Boy’s and Girl’s Vardon OOM starting this week at the SA Junior Open. The Men’s & Women’s Senior OOM will begin in February at Blackwood Golf Club.
