Shayne Walker won the men's Tasmanian senior amateur

Launceston’s Shayne Walker won his first Men’s Tasmanian Senior Amateur at the Mowbray Golf Club. Walker defeated Prospect Vale Golf Club’s Robbie Berne on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off after the pair finished the event locked on six-over-par. Walker shooting rounds of 71, 76 and 72 while Berne carded 74, 70 and 75 for his 54-hole total of 219. Local member, Terence Clark, finished the event tied for third at seven-over with Victoria’s Gregory Rhodes after recording a final round of two-under 69. Local member and six-time champion Michael Leedham and New South Wales’ Lester Peterson rounded out the top five with nine-over-par totals of 222. Clark was far too strong in the 60-64 age group category and 54-hole net championship with scores of 74, 71 and 66, a total of 211. The 63-year-old won the handicap championship by three strokes from Launceston Golf Club member Peter Blackwell. Walker collected the 55-59 age group title while local members Tony Pyszkowski and Murray Lethborg claimed the 65-69 and 70+ brackets.
