Vic Amateur: Fan and Bennett into semis
by Martin Blake
Port Phillip Open Amateur champions Kelsey Bennett and Chris Fan have progressed to the semi-final stage of the Victorian Amateur at Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club.
The top seeds from New South Wales won their quarter-final matches today, with Bennett coming from behind in her match against Queenslander Sarah Wilson, while Fan took to the 18th hole to defeat his Avondale clubmate Jye Pickin 1 up.
Bennett, recent runner-up in the Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific in the United Arab Emirates, will play Commonwealth’s Mackenzie Wilson in one women’s semi-final, after Wilson defeated fellow Tasmanian Hallie Meaburn in the quarters, 2&1 when she chipped in at the 17th hole.
The other women’s semi-final is between Victorian Jeneath Wong (Metropolitan) and Concord’s Belinda Ji.
In the men’s semi-finals, Fan will play national order of merit winner Jack Buchanan (SA), while defending champion Harrison Crowe is into the top four again after he beat Toby Walker in a quarter-final. Crowe will meet Commonwealth’s Daniel Gill in the semis.
