Vic Rookie Series a competitive start for juniors
by Golf Australia
Want to introduce your child to competitive golf but don’t know how? Then the Victorian Rookie Series events are for you!
The Rookie Series provides a great challenge for regular junior players and the perfect opportunity for children looking for their first competitive experience.
The events provide the ideal steppingstone for those who have completed golf clinics and are looking to play events, or for established golfers transitioning into 18-hole competitions.
The Series encompasses two types of events - 18-hole Pitch n Putt competitions and 9-hole events at golf courses across Victoria. All events are suited to players from age 6 to 15 years.
In the Pitch n Putt Rookie events played at Waverley Pitch n Putt, there are sections for U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16 age groups. The events conclude with a sausage sizzle, a participation certificate, and a 2 for 1 return play voucher. They are great fun for all the family....and often form a child's first competition experience. The format of play is a 9am shotgun start, with play generally taking around 2.5 hours to complete. Presentations are held afterwards with the event winding up around lunch time.
In the 9-hole competitions there are sections for boys and girls aged under 9, 12 and 16, with course distances controlled accordingly.
The Rules are relaxed, and players do not need to be a member of a golf club, nor do they need a handicap – simply a love of golf!
