The first major Victorian junior event for 2020 is under way at Cranbourne Golf Club.

Previously played in September, the Victorian Boys and Girls Championships boasts some of Victoria’s and the country's best junior golfers.

Jeneath Wong has started 2020 the way she finished 2019 with a strong round one performance, leading the overall girls and under 16 girls’ sections by three shots

Wong produced five birdies on her way to a three-under-par 69.

Queensland’s Annabelle Hutchings and Victoria’s Imogen Jones and Tiana Wanigasekera are all tied for second after they finished even par for the round.

Sarah Hammett leads the way in the under 14s after her score of 75.

In the boys section, Queensland’s Justin Hammett and Victoria’s Michael Song are tied at the top after the pair finished with two-under rounds of 70.

Remarkably, both players are only 14 and 15 respectively which has them leading the under 16 age division.

Noah Best is one stroke behind in outright second followed by a host of players at even par.

The boys under 14 section sees Rupert Toomey leading Hamish Farquharson by two after the pair finished with 77 and 79 respectively.

Play will continue tomorrow morning at Cranbourne Golf Club.
