Van Noord chasing Northern Amateur crown
by Golf Australia
An elite field will tee off this weekend in the 110th men’s and 109th women’s Northern Amateur Championships at the Riverside Golf Club. The men’s and women’s Northern championships cater for seniors, colts, juniors, b and c grade players and will see 70 competitors chasing titles. Front runner for the men’s crown will be current state team Captain and Launceston Golf Club member Mitch Van Noord. The 28-year-old plus two handicapper is one of a handful of competitors who could claim this year’s championship. Challenges for the title are expected to come from Tasmania Golf Club’s Mark Schulze, Prospect Vale’s Ronan Filgate and Burnie Golf Club’s Brayden Field. Former state team and local member Amanda Smith is tipped to take out the women’s event, however Launceston’s Jorjah Bailey will provide some stiff opposition. Northern Golf Secretary, Rick Sindorff, has advised that post entries will be accepted on the day and to contact on Rick on 0418 909 589 for further information.
