Vale Renton Laidlaw, one of golf’s finest commentators and journalists. Renton, who was 82, passed away today after a long illness. He was hospitalised in Dundee just more than a week ago and tested positive to Covid-19. Australia was like Renton’s second home and he became a much-loved figure on telecasts of our biggest golf tournaments with his beautiful speaking voice and his knowledge of the game. In a career spanning more than 50 years there is barely a medium he hasn’t contributed to, from books and newspapers to magazines and TV, later retiring in 2015. Our sympathies to Renton’s family in Scotland and also to his many close friends in this country.

Journalist John Huggan sat down with Renton a few months ago to reflect on a lifetime in the game unlike few have ever experienced. It turned out to be his last interview. Listen to the podcast here.
