Update: Covid-19 ends Victorian pennant season
by Mark Hayes
The Victorian pennant season has been cancelled.
After receiving information from some clubs that they were closing because of Covid-19 concerns, Golf Australia's Victorian operations manager Therese Magdulski said there was no choice left but to cancel the season, effective immediately.
"Whilst GA has made this determination taking into account individual club circumstances, we would reiterate that we are not advocating golf stop being played," Magdulski said.
"However we respect the decisions of the clubs and have made this decision accordingly.
"GA still encourages golf clubs to continue to conduct their regular competitions and social play in accordance with the safety measures outlined by the Australian Government and GA’s continued updated club and facility advice."
Magdulski said Victorian clubs would be contacted in coming months regarding divisions for the 2021 season.
Of other states under the GA umbrella, the South Australian season is not yet under way, while Queensland and Tasmanian competitions are run by local districts.
