Trentham has lost more than 50 mature, native trees in last week's storm.

The beautiful little Trentham Golf Club in central Victoria is in a world of pain after ferocious wind and heavy rain left a trail of destruction last week.

Club members have been busy mopping up the mess after the storm last Wednesday night dumped 135 millimetres of rain on the course.

More than 50 mature, native trees were knocked down in the storm including a few that are several hundred years old. The course is closed and will not reopen for at least a month.

It is not clear yet whether insurance will cover the losses. An assessor was inspecting the damage today.

"We've been totally smashed," said club captain Simon Ovenden today.

"It's a lot worse than we originally thought. The list (of damage) is striking. That (trees down) is the obvious bit. There are limbs stuck in trees. It's just carnage."

Trentham has two staff members and a membership of 371.

Offers of help for the club can be sent through info@trenthamgolf.com.au
