Thyne Trophy and North vs South Plate Underway
by Contributor
The Claremont and Pittwater Golf Clubs will host the 2021 Thyne Trophy for men and North vs South Plate for women this weekend. The North versus South Plate will be a keenly contested event with the South out to avenge their loss in 2019 at Thirlstane Golf Club. The South have named Royal Hobart Golf Club member and seven handicapper, Karen Bannister, as Captain. Grandmother and granddaughter combination of Lindy Goggin and Hallie Meaburn will also be key players for the South. Riverside Golf Club’s Amanda Smith will Captain the Northern team in their title defence. Ulverstone’s Tailah Mowat and Sarah Johnstone, and Launceston Golf Club’s Jorjah Bailey will play pivotal roles. Favourites to take out this year’s Thyne Trophy at Claremont are the boys representing Golf Southern Tasmania. The Golf Southern Tasmania team will be spearheaded by Royal Hobart Golf Club member Richard Kube. The Golf Southern Tasmania team will be attempting to capture the title last won at the Kingston Beach Golf Club in 2018. Other key players in the Golf Southern Tasmania line-up include Royal Hobart Golf Club’s Joey Bower and Josh Hill, as well as Kingston Beach’s Matthew Glover. The Thyne Trophy is a round robin match-play tournament for men with each of Tasmania’s four Area Associations represented. While the annual women’s North vs South Plate will see the two regions battle it out in foursomes and singles match-play. Each team in the Thyne Trophy competition is comprised of eight members, however, a contest between two teams is determined by seven singles matches. The Thyne Trophy and North vs South events will be played on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 May.
