Barry Tippett and Jacqui Morgan have held strong to take out the Victorian Men’s and Women’s Senior Amateur Championships respectively.

Both competitions went right down to the wire with the 54th hole of the tournament needed to decide the winners.

Tippett stood on the 18th tee with a one-shot lead over Frank Fowler and Greg Rhodes.

With Fowler in close for two and a chance for birdie, Tippett faced a difficult bunker shot with an eager gallery looking on.

With one of the shots of his life, Tippett would hole out and finish the tournament in style.

“To be honest, I caught it a bit heavy but luckily it rolled out nicely. I couldn’t believe it went in.” Tippett said.

“I am truly speechless.”

With Fowler missing his putt, Tippett would salute by three shots with an overall score of 219 for the championship.

Fowler was outright second on 222 with Greg Rhodes and Gordon Claney tying for third position on 223.

The women’s championship would be equally as dramatic with Morgan tied with local member Kerrin Biddle on the 9th tee, their last hole of the day.

Both came up short of the green for two, as Biddle would overshoot the green with her third shot and leave herself in a difficult position.

As Biddle was unable to get up and down, Morgan would safely make her bogey and take out the championship by a single shot.

“It was a great battle with Kerrin today but luckily it went my way.” Morgan said.

Morgan finished on 238 for the tournament one ahead of Biddle on 239.

Rounding out the top three was 2018 champion Kim Burke on 243.

In the net sections, Marcus Padley was triumphant in the men’s with 212 and Heather Harley in the women’s with her score of 231.

A fantastic three days was had at Barwon Heads and 13th Beach for this year’s senior championship.

The event will return to these courses for the next two years.
