by Golf Australia
The Grange Golf Club have won the 2021 Sanderson Cup, defeating Glenelg 3-2 in today’s final at Glenelg.
The win was the 9th top grade title for The Grange and fifth victory in the past six years. Both sides have been the dominant teams in the competition in recent years playing off in the decider 6 of the past 7 seasons with both sides winning three titles each in that time. Both sides struggled through the season to finish with two wins and two losses, with Grange ranked 3rd and Glenelg 4th then winning semi-finals against Royal Adelaide and Kooyonga respectively to reach the decider. In today’s final The Grange prevailed with top three players Jin-young Yun, Amelia Whinney and Emily Smith all recording victories, while for Glenelg Eliza Baker and Sarah Crocker won closely fought matches. Smith who relocated to Adelaide from Melbourne 18 months ago was a welcome addition to the Grange side at number three and was thrilled to be part of the winning team. “We had two of us who were first time winners in our first season in Sanderson Cup. It was great to beat Glenelg at Glenelg, it was always going to be a tough challenge as they have performed really well in the back half of the season, so we had to be in it together today and we just knew we needed three wins and that’s what we got.” Smith said. The Grange Team Manager Joy Prior, was equally delighted with the victory. “It was fantastic, it was a challenge all day, it was so close right through. The Grange girls kept pushing on and we finally got the result and it was wonderful. It was wonderful to actually beat Glenelg at Glenelg which is a challenge in itself, it was a great day, everyone performed really well and it was a great team spirit both ways. In the Women’s A2 Pike Cup final - Glenelg defeated Tea Tree Gully 3.5-1.5. Final Results
