The countdown is on for the highly-anticipated return of the Australian Interstate Teams Matches at Sorrento Golf Club on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula from 10-12 May and the hype is only growing with the announcement of each state’s team for the competition.

The mixed gender teams - which is a first for Australia’s premier amateur teams championship - are littered with amateur champions, and even a few players with professional victories to their names, and the competition is expected to be fierce.

Sorrento, which hosted the 2002 Vic Open, is primed to be an excellent setting for the state rivalries to reignite as it is known for its immaculate, undulating fairways and manicured green complexes which provide a good test of course management and make for thrilling matches.

Teams will play each other once in the traditional round-robin team match play format before the champion is decided in the final.

Some of the prodigious amateurs taking part include NSW Open champion Harrison Crowe (NSW), Karrie Webb Scholarship recipients Kirsten Rudgeley (WA) and Caitlin Peirce (SA), Australian Amateur champion Connor McKinney (WA), Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific runner-up Kelsey Bennett (NSW) and reigning Order of Merit winner Jack Buchanan (SA).

Golf Australia General Manager - High Performance Brad James said he is excited to see such strong teams named.

“The cream of our amateur crop are going to be in action at Sorrento and it is going to be great to see how the contests play out,” James said.

“Match play, and the added element of the team environment, always brings out different traits in players and it will be fascinating to see how these golfers grasp the opportunity of playing for their states.

“I know from speaking to plenty of the players that they are excited by the challenge this presents and they are really keen to win.”

The team line-ups are as followed:

NSW - Kelsey Bennett, Harry Bolton, Harrison Crowe, Chris Fan, Belinda Ji, Brielle Mapanao, Hayley McNeill and Jye Pickin.
