Southern Golf Club
Once regarded as the hidden jewel of Melbourne's Sandbelt region, the Southern Golf Club was founded by public course golfers from Brighton who in 1949 built a new golf course near the suburb of Dingley. Designed initially by Sam Berriman, the Southern layout is situated in close proximity to other second-tied Sandbelt clubs like Keysborough, Kingswood and Spring Valley. Berriman's course was first altered by Peter Thomson and Mike Wolveridge in the 1970s, then more radically by legendary club member Bob Shearer from 1990 to present day. The Southern Golf Club is an outstanding professionally manicured Championship Golf Course with a balance of different types of holes. Mature trees line the fairways of our older holes whilst strategic waterholes catch any errant shots on newer holes. With the addition of the new multi-million dollar Clubhouse (opened in late 2003), it would be fair to say that Southern is an ideal course for the avid golfer to experience.
