Smith confirmed for 2019 #AusPGA

by Contributor

It came to little in terms of a trophy, but two Aussies put on a bold showing on the European Tour in Switzerland overnight.

South Australian Wade Ormsby and Victorian Lucas Herbert shared eighth after a rollercoaster final round of the Omega European Masters at Crans Montana, just two shots off the eventual winning pace.

Ormsby, a threat throughout the event, had led for much of the final round until a double-bogey on the par-five 15th brought him undone.

Herbert, conversely, was blemish free without fanfare early in his round, then caught fire late with an eagle on the 14th followed by two more birdies to momentarily pull within one of the lead at 12 under alongside Ormsby.

In a frenetic closing hour, seven men skipped past before Sebastian Soderberg, of Sweden, prevailed in a five-man playoff with a rare birdie on the tough 18th hole.

Meanwhile, the PGA Tour hopes of Cam Davis and Brett Coletta are hanging by a thread at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship.

The pair both need high finishes tomorrow to have any chance of a promotion next season and gave themselves hope with a pair of 69s in today’s third round.

But they’ll likely need to shoot somewhere in the mid-60s to close with any chance of approaching the lead of Tom Lewis (-16) and company.

Curtis Luck, who missed the cut a day earlier, slipped to 27th in the finals standings after results conspired against him today, but he also has a mathematical chance of regaining his card tomorrow depending on results around him. LEADERBOARD
