Adam Scott birdied the 72nd hole to shoot 70 and finish as the leading Australian at the PGA Tour’s Tournament of Champions in Maui today.

Scott rounded off a good week of ball-striking with two towering shots to the green on the par-five 18th at Kapalua resort and two putts for a birdie.

The 40-year-old Queenslander finished at 15 under par in a tie for 21st place, a shot clear of Marc Leishman who closed with a fine 69 today, and Cameron Smith (70 today).

Smith was contending for a while on the third day but fell back late. He defends his Sony Open title in Hawaii this week.

Even Scott was 10 shots back from the top pair, American Harris English and Joaquin Niemann of Chile at 25 under. English birdied the first playoff hole to win the tournament.
