Scholarships for Vic golf industry
by Golf Australia
The Victorian Government has launched its Golf Scholarship Program to support the development of emerging athletes and industry employees.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence acknowledged sport’s enormous impact in the community and said it was the intention of the scholarship to ensure “even more Victorians can reap the benefit of this popular sport”.
“With more than 300,000 Victorians playing golf at more than 350 courses across the state, golf is more popular than ever and plays an integral part of the lives of Victorian communities,” Spence said.
“This fantastic new program aims to kick start the careers of our up and comers in the grassroots golf community.
“Scholarships are available in three categories which include golf administration, player development and golf course horticulture and design.
“Each category delivers strong foundations in leadership, technical, media and management skill development, with the scholarships providing a launchpad for people to take their careers in the golf industry to the next level.”
A minimum of two scholarships per category will be awarded in each round of applications.
In each category, at least one scholarship will be awarded to a woman, gender diverse or non-binary person.
Golf Australia chief executive James Sutherland was delighted the sport’s growing inclusivity would be further enhanced.
“The broad range of skillsets and diverse array of talented people required across the spectrum are what makes golf the sport so many of us are so passionate about and create the possibility for us all to play on some of the world’s great courses and then savour the off-course experiences afterwards,” Sutherland said.
“Golf is an inclusive and growing community that offers many and varied careers that preclude nobody from the industry.
“We are excited to play our part in the scholarship program and are really encouraged to see so many new avenues open up for those from all walks of life who want to continue golf’s momentum and take it to the next level throughout our community.”
