Riordan goes back-to-back in SA Mid Amateur
by Golf Australia
It was a country affair at the weekend when Ebony Riordan who plays out of Willunga Golf Club and Tim Atze from Pinnarroo Golf Club were crowned SA Mid Amateur Champions at Links Lady Bay Resort on Sunday evening.
2020 champion Riordan started strongly on Saturday with a great 78 in blustery conditions however 2016 champion, Susan Keylock from Sandy Creek was only one shot behind after a fine 79 with Blackwood Golf Club’s Hannah Custance a further three shots back. In the second round there was little in it between the three leaders after twelve holes, however Riordan stepped up a gear playing the last six holes in level par including birdies on fourteen and sixteen to secure the win with a six-shot margin over Keylock and Custance.
Five time SA Country Championship Champion Atze was the only player in the field to score under par over the weekend and in fact did it twice with an excellent one-under-par 71 in the tougher conditions on Saturday followed by a further 71 on Sunday to finish with a seven-shot victory. The Vines Golf Club members Chris Burns and Tony Nobbs improved on their first rounds scoring 73 and 72 respectively to finish second and third.
The event was open to men and women aged between 30 and 54 but with several junior golfers, including 2021 SA Boys Vardon winner, Charlie Nobbs caddying for parents and family friends it showcased that golf is a game for all ages.
