Huon Valley Golf Club hosted the qualifying and quarter final rounds of the Southern Country Golf Association’s RHL Roberts Memorial Trophy last weekend.

Sunday morning’s qualifying round saw Royal Hobart’s Paul Read and Joey Bower emerge as tournament favourites with a three-over-par 75.

The pair qualified in first place and finished two strokes ahead of Kingston Beach’s Matthew Glover and David Pretyman in second on five-over 77.

While Iron Pot Golf Club’s Gary Smith and Peter O’Keefe qualified third with a seven-over-par round of 79.

The top eight qualifiers moved into the quarter finals of this prestigious foursomes match play event conducted Sunday afternoon.

Quarter final victories went to Royal Hobart’s Read and Bower who defeated Tasmania Golf Club’s Harry Bevis and Lachlan White 2&1.

Trent Riseley and Oscar Burrell from North West Bay overcame Llanherne’s Roger Styles and Garry Quarrell 1up at the 23rd hole in an exciting encounter.

Forced into extra holes, the pairs played the par three first and tenth holes with North West Bay defeating Llanherne on the fifth occasion with a par.

Kingston Beach Golf Club’s Glover and Pretyman comfortably accounted for Claremont’s Tim Lennox and Tim Doyle 4&3.

While Tea Tree’s Paul Howard and Matthew Street defeated Ion Pot’s Smith and O’Keefe 3&2.

The semi and final rounds will be hosted by the Claremont Golf Club this Sunday and will commence from 8.00am with the final teeing off at 12.30pm.

Royal Hobart’s Read and Bower will take on North West Bay’s Riseley and Burrell in the first semi-final.

While Glover and Pretyman from Kingston Beach will come up against Tea Tree Golf Club’s Howard and Street in the second semi-final.
