by Golf Australia
Queenslanders Cassie Porter and Lincoln Morgan have won playoffs to secure the respective girls and boys titles at the Victorian Junior Open at 13th Beach.
Peregian Golf Club’s Porter, 17, started the fourth round six shots behind Metropolitan’s Jeneath Wong, but shot seven-under to Wong’s one-under to force a playoff, reeling off three consecutive birdies between the 10th and 12th holes.
She won the first playoff hole, the 18th on the Beach course, with a birdie after Wong, just 15, missed her own chance of a birdie.
Wong had to be content in winning the under 16 section by a whopping 23 shots. She also set a new course record on the Beach course with a 63 in round three.
Morgan, from Gailes Golf Club in Brisbane, prevailed after five holes of a playoff against Quinnton Croker, also of Queensland, who had begun the final round two shots clear of him.
The pair went par, par, birdie, par before at the fifth attempt at the Beach course’s 18th hole, Morgan finally birdied to take the title.
Angus O’Brien, who made a late charge with a closing 68, was just one shot back in third place.
