Porter's pro plunge

by Dane Heverin

Cassie Porter has turned professional.

One of Australia's top female amateurs, Cassie Porter, has taken the leap into professional golf.

Porter, 19, has been in stellar form in the past two months with a win at the Keperra Bowl (alongside her partner Tyler Duncan), a top-ten finish at the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship in Abu Dhabi and a third place result at the Sunshine State Amateur in Florida.

Off the back of those impressive results and time spent with Karrie Webb and Hannah Green in the US, the Queenslander is ready to join the WPGA Tour of Australasia and she will make her professional debut at Melbourne WPGA International next month.

"This is not just a big moment for me, but for my team as well. We have all worked through the good times and the tough times to get to where we are and I couldn’t be prouder to be apart of the family we have created," Porter, who missed 18 months through injury across 2020 and 2021, said on Instagram.

"I have been lucky enough to travel the world and experience many corners of the globe while representing Australia as an amateur and I am beyond excited to do the same as a professional. "I couldn’t possibly name everyone, but to those who have supported me through my journey so far, I can’t thank you enough for your unwavering love and support. It never goes unnoticed."

Porter's amateur career also included three junior victories in 2019 at the Victorian Junior Open, Greg Norman Junior Masters and Jack Newton International Junior Classic.
