Launceston Golf Club’s Shayne Walker and Jacquelin Morgan from New South Wales have won Tasmanian Senior Amateur championships at Mowbray today. For Walker, from Launceston Golf Club, it signalled back-to-back victories. The 56-year-old defeated Brad Dowling of Queensland on the second hole of a sudden-death play-off with a par to take out this year’s title. The pair finished the 54-hole tournament on two-over-par 215 after Walker carded rounds of 69, 72 and 74, and Dowling recording 72, 75 and 68. Queensland’s Ian Frost placed third on the final leader board with four-over-par rounds of 72, 71 and 74. Local member Terence Clark and Queensland’s Stephen Deane rounded out the top five with six-over and eight-over-par respectively. Morgan led the women's championship from start to finish. She won comfortably with 10-over-par rounds of 73, 78 and 75, 12 strokes in front of her nearest rivals, Tammy Hall of Prospect Vale and Helen Pascoe of Victoria, tied for second on 22-over-par. Prospect Vale’s Lindsay French and Deidre Panton placed fourth and fifth on the final tally.
