Minjee Lee in strong return to LPGA
by Martin Blake
Minjee Lee brushed up her game in time for the year's first major next week with a top-five finish at the LPGA Tour's Kia Classic in California today. After a long break to start 2021, Australia's Lee finished tied-fifth at her first start of 2021 behind the legendary Inbee Park. Lee played in the final group with South Korean pair Park and MJ Hur at Aviara Golf Club, and did not have her best game on the day until it was too late.
But she did have some moments to remind everyone that she is a world top-10 player: notably driving the green at the par-four 16th and then hitting a superb, 245-metre three wood to the green at the par-five 17th with her second shot.
Starting out seven shots shy of Park's lead, she was never a chance to win after two bogeys in her first six holes today. Ultimately she shot an even-par 72 to finish at seven under par, seven shots behind Park.
The ANA Inspiration, the first major of the year, is at Rancho Mirage in California this week.
