Australian Min Woo Lee is in contention at the Scottish Open despite a near meltdown before his first round at the Renaissance Club last night.

The 22-year-old Australian had an 08.41 tee time but managed to forget his lanyard, lose his phone and run low on golf balls before completing an opening 66.

Lee's five under round was the best of the morning and left him well placed to follow-up on his breakthrough win on home soil at the ISPS Handa Vic Open earlier this year.

“It's actually funny, woke up feeling not too good, didn't have eight hours' sleep. Came out, drove here. It was like 10 minutes away and then I don't have my lanyard to get in, so I am struggling to get a pass,” Lee explained.

“I left my lanyard to get in and the machine was heating up so I couldn't get it quick enough, I waited ten minutes, maybe 15 minutes, and I was just standing there in the cold.

“I didn't have my rain jacket or rain pants on, so I was waiting, and then I finally got in and I ran to my caddie and I dropped my phone somewhere and I only realised that when I started putting.

“Didn't have enough balls so (my caddie) had to go back to the car, and I had to keep putting and freak out while I was putting.

"I nearly had a mental breakdown, because I didn't have my phone because I normally listen to music and just having my phone there would have been nice.

"My caddie took ten minutes to get the stuff, came back and my phone is gone. I was freaking out and someone handed it in which is nice of them, so I'm like ten, 15 minutes past my warm up so I had to shorten that up in every aspect of the game and things work out nice, and maybe I'll do it again.”

Despite holding the lead for much of the day the Perth star was overtaken late in the good conditions, with Englishman Lee Westwood going lowest with a 62.

Among those who caught Lee at 66 were two Australians – Wade Ormsby and Lucas Herbert.

CAMERON DAVIS closed with a birdie for an excellent 66 to push into the top 10 of the PGA Tour's Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi today.

Sydney's Davis is tied-sixth, two shots from the lead.
