Grace Kim is going from strength to strength in the United States, claiming her second Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT) Tour title in as many starts in the Texarkana Children’s Charities Open in Texas at the weekend.
Holding a three-shot lead overnight, carded a final-round even-par 71 at the Texarkana Country Club to hold off her rivals in the end by three.
It wasn’t entirely plain sailing for the 20-year-old Dual NSW and Australian Amateur Champion earlier in the day though. after getting off to a sound start, back-to-back bogies on the 4th and 5th holes gave Kim’s challengers a sniff of victory.
Kim recovered with a birdie on the 7th to right the ship, but her nearest challenger, Oklahoma’s Kaitlin Milligan, had seized her chance; With birdies on the 7th and 9th, the American had erased the Avondale star’s lead as they turned for home.
The pair went shot-for-shot as the back nine began, including matching birdies on the par-five 12th. It was the par-three 13th that proved decisive for Kim, however, and when she rolled in her birdie, while Milligan could only make bogey, the lead was suddenly out to two.
From there the Avondale star was going to be hard to catch. When Milligan added another bogey on the 17t, it was all but over. Despite a bogey on the last, it was an easy victory in the end for Kim.
