Sydney’s Grace Kim compiled a 66 with seven birdies to take the first-round lead in the Avondale Amateur.

Kim has a one-shot lead over Queenslander Cassie Porter, from the Peregian Golf Club. Japanese player Tsubasu Kajitani sits third after the first round, having shot a four-under par 68.

Meantime, Lewis Hoath from Royal Pines and Harry Bolton from NSW Golf Club lead the men’s field after both shooting six-under-par rounds of 65.

The 19-year-old Hoath started from the 10th hole and was thre-under-par after five holes having lipped out for an eagle on the par-five 14th. Hoath said he was pleasantly surprised with his ball striking on day one. “I drove the ball really well all day, I was particularly pleased with my accuracy off the tee,” he said.

Bolton had two eagles, on the seventh and ninth holes. A group of players are a shot back at five-under, including Pymble’s James Conran, Harrison Crowe of St Michael’s Golf Club and Nathan Barbieri from Monash. Chris Fan and William Moody were the best of the locals, each shooting 72.
