New South Wales golfers Grace Kim and Nathan Barbieri have triumphed in the prestigious Avondale Amateur.

The 19-year-old Kim, the gold medallist at the 2018 Youth Olympics, led from start to finish to win the Avondale Bowl on her home course.

Kim shot a two-under par 70 on the final day to finish at 11-under, a shot ahead of Japan’s Tsubasa Kajitani, who closed with a 68 and wrested the lead from Kim around the turn. The top three were rounded out by New Zealand’s Fiona Xu at eight-under.

Barbieri, 22, who plays out of Monash, held off 17-year-old Englishman Ben Schmidt for the men’s prize, closing with a five-under par 66 to finish at 16-under par. He won by three shots from Schmidt with Victorian Andre Lautee and Japan’s Ren Yonezawa tied for third.

Following Japanese golfer Taichei Kimura’s new course record on Thursday, Queenslander Louis Dobbelaar went one better with a 62 which included nine birdies, rocketing him 25 places up the leaderboard to a tie for eighth.
