Hammett wins Kirk Classic

Sarah Hammett from the Emerald Lakes Golf Club has won the under 18 Katherine Kirk Classic at Maroochy River today.

In tough conditions with winds of 38km/h gusting to 45 km/h, Hammett began the final day four shots from the lead held by Justice Bosio of Caboolture but reeled in the 36-hole leader with a final-round 70 to finish at even par overall for the 54 holes.

Bosio, the 2020 Keperra Bowl champion, posted a final-round 79 to slip away and finish third. Haruhi Nakatani of Surfers Paradise Golf Club was runner-up after a 78 today.

Local Ionna Muir won the 15 years and under section with scores of 74-72-75 while the 2017 Katherine Kirk Classic winner Cassie Porter (Peregian Springs) took home the under 21 years category with scores of 68-68-78.
