Gregory Confirms his Credentials at South Lakes
by Golf Australia
As forecast after the first SA SOOM event, Paul Gregory (The Vines of Reynella) will be a definite challenger for the Men’s Senior title in 2022. A newly minted 55 year old, playing off a one-handicap, Paul won his first event with an excellent 70. Other low-handicap newcomers, Steven Schofield (McCracken) (72) and Andrew Edwards (Mt Osmond) (74) filled the placings. Phil Hore from Westward Ho Golf Club, shot an excellent Nett 65 for his first win followed by Andy Munn (SGA SA) and the consistent Shane Amor (Grange) following with Nett 68 and 69 respectively. Super Seniors Gross saw the normal order of things resumed with Mike Richards (Tea Tree Gully) winning with a 75 with his mate Jim Richards and John McInnes (Oakbank) turning in 76’s. Alastair Brown (Victor Harbor) posted a Nett 68 to win on a countback from locals Gordon Whittaker and David Hirst. A strong Women’s field with all the usual Blackwood contingent holding sway – Angela Masters (82) following up her win in the previous round from fellow pennant player Gail McPherson (83). Julie Crafter (South Lakes) (86) was third. Hannah Tayler (North Adelaide) spoiled the Blackwood party by winning the Nett with a 71. A cluster of 73’s from Rosemary Underwood, Karen Brien, Susan Seja, Marg Rawlinson (all Blackwood) plus locals Lis Wilson and Alison Russell followed hot on Hannah’s heels. We got an overcast day with virtually windless conditions (well, by South Lakes standards) – perfect for scoring with the usual high level of course presentation. One hole was under renovation so we used the 19th with Par reduced to 69. 38 women and 63 men made up an excellent field – a 10% increase from last year showing the strength of SA senior golf. Roger Pridmore made the trip up from Naracoorte in SA’s South-East and had the shot of the day, holing his #6-iron for an eagle on the Par 4 4th hole.
