Hannah Green saved her best golf for the last day of the LPGA Tour season, finishing tied-second at the CME Group Tour Championship in Florida.

Green, who turned 24 today, rattled off a final-round 67 with five birdies and no bogeys to vault up the field at Tiburon Golf Club.

At 13-under, she had only world No. 1 Jin Young Ko ahead of her, Ko demolishing the field by five shots and shooting a 66 when her top ranking was on the line.

The Australian picked up $US209,000 in prizemoney as a nice birthday gift.

“Yeah, really nice,” said Green. “It's funny, I actually felt like I left a lot out there, too. Had a couple putts that could have dropped. Then again, I holed some really good putts, too. Yeah, super stoked to have a great round on my birthday.”

Green now faces a two-week quarantine stay in a hotel back in Australia. She will skip the Tournament of Champions early in 2021 so that she can have a prolonged break with family back in Perth. Her 2021 season will begin in March.

“Yeah, especially being my birthday and the holiday season,” she said. “It's going to be different having to do FaceTime for Christmas and everything, but I'm definitely counting down when you want to go home.”

It was Green’s best result of the 2020 season. “Yeah, felt like I did some good work through quarantine with my coach (Ritchie Smith). Gained some distance, so that really was nice to actually come out and see it in a tournament.

“I wish there was an event next week because I finally do feel like everything is coming together, but then again, I do want to back to Australia. Yeah, best finish all year. First time broken the top 10. Super excited. It's nice to finish on a high and be able to go home and eventually celebrate.”

Australia’s other hope in the season-ender, Minjee Lee, dipped to a tie for 13th after a closing 74, while Katherine Kirk was T23 and Sarah Kemp T53.
