Applications are closing on Friday for the Victorian Government’s golf scholarship program for 2021-22.

The scholarships offer up support for people in the golf industry under three categories – golf administration, player development and golf course horticulture and design, with up to $7500 offered in each category.

Candidates are to be nominated by sector-based organisations, local government authorities or recognised higher education institution.

A minimum of two scholarships per category are allocated in each round. Beyond Friday’s deadline there are another three rounds through the year.

The government says golf contributes $883 million to the state’s economy and supports 6900 jobs.

With more than 300,000 Victorians playing golf annually at more than 350 courses, the government has identified that the sector “lacks diversity”, with just three percent of total club members being juniors and only 20 percent being women.

As such new participation programs are being launched targeting these cohorts and promoting golf as a career option.

As such, individuals who identify as a woman, gender-diverse and non-binary are strongly advised to apply.

Candidates must be aged 18 years or older and live in Victoria.
