Girls golf in south-east Queensland is taking off.

Numerous facilities across the region are playing host to blossoming golf careers and Meadowbrook Golf Club – nearly 30km from Brisbane’s CBD – is one such venue helping the next crop of girl golfers develop their skills and love of the game.

Meadowbrook is the home of five Australian Junior Girls Golf Scholarship recipients and the girls have been enjoying weekly group tuition with PGA Professional Chris Beckett.

“The girls are doing really well. One great thing about the scholarship program is it has bought the girls together. They have not only bonded by attending weekly coaching, but their skill development has also been outstanding,” Beckett said.

“The girls are now getting out and playing in our club 9-hole competitions. In addition, they are playing in Junior Golf Queensland events including the Junior League Tour where girls play 6 tournaments across the South-East of the State.

“We have a couple of girls who are keen to take their golf a long way. It was very powerful to have them attend the Hannah Green Zoom session recently and then watch Hannah play at the Olympics.”

A unique experience just for AGF Scholarship holders was to speak with Hannah Green via Zoom this year. The scholarship program has come to fruition thanks to the foresight and generosity of Bonnie Boezeman AO, Director of the Australian Golf Foundation, who originally established the program at Killara Golf Club, NSW.
