Eight girls recently started their Australian Golf Foundation (AGF) Junior Girls Golf Scholarship experience at the Curlewis Golf Club and Range on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula.

“I caught up with the girls this morning and the improvement over the first six weeks of the program has been incredible,” said Jamie Brigden, Curlewis general manager.

“Our members have been very supportive of the program, with the club committee funding a further three girls in addition to the five funded through the AGF.”

The participants are excited, too.

“It’s been great to meet a bunch of girls that like golf, too,” said Kylie, a scholarship holder.

“The feeling of improving each week has been great!” added Olivia.

Under the tutelage of the club’s PGA professional Steve Brodie, scholarship holders throughout 2021 have the opportunity to advance their skills through weekly coaching sessions along with being supported to obtain a handicap and play club competitions.

“We are aiming to run this program on an annual basis and are setting up a MyGolf Girls program as a recruitment tool for this,” Brigden said.

So what of the goals the girls have set themselves in their scholarship year?

Georgia wants to be able to play 18 holes with her grandparents and Olivia aims to be able to beat her dad!

Some wonderful family rivalry ahead at Curlewis!
