Englishman Ben Schmidt leads the men’s field at the Avondale Amateur by one shot after carding a five-under-par 66, after having an incredible run of birdies including holes 16, 17 and 18.

Schmidt is touring as part of the English men’s golf squad and last week won the NSW Amateur Championship.

New South Welshman Nathan Barbieri is in second place at eight-under-par after backing up yesterday’s 66 with a neat 68 today.

Six players are tied for third including Japanese player Ryo Hisatsune who had the round of the day, a course record equalling 64.

A total of 23 players have under-par scores at the completion of round two.

Grace Kim leads the women's field after shooting two-under-par 70. Kim hit her five iron on the par three eighth to within two centimetres of the flag. Three players are tied for second including Fiona Xu of Akarana Golf Club, New Zealand who had six birdies in her impressive round of 67 today.

Hayley McNeill fought back strongly to finish with 74 and she is placed in a tie for 15th. A field of 22 women have made the cut and will fight for the title over the next two days.
