Australian Amateur champion Louis Dobbelaar has logged his first big win in the United States. Brookwater's Dobbelaar, the reigning Queensland Amateur champion and a past Tasmanian and New Zealand Amateur victor, held on to win the Dogwood Invitational at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta by two shots. His rounds of 68-64-66-72 were enough to hold off the fast-finishing Nicolas Cassidy from the University of Georgia, who closed with a 62. Another Aussie, Georgia State's Josh Edgar, finished four shots back in a tie for eighth. Dobbelaar, 19, is in the US playing a series of events after a stellar start to the year in Australia highlighted by his come-from-behind win in the Australian Amateur at Kooyonga in Adelaide last February. The Dogwood Invitational dates to 1941 and its winners include former US Open champ Webb Simpson.
