The course is located 5km north of the small town on the Lincoln Highway and is about 102km (or 1 hour) south of Whyalla. Cowell Golf Club measures 5716m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 110-162m, ten par 4s ranging from 272-394m and four par 5s ranging from 416-483m. The course has 18 small black soils with mostly straight holes (like the 350m uphill 1st or the 394m straight 10th) except the 416m short Par 5 dogleg right 13th (index 13).
