Course the winner in round seven of SA SOOM

by Golf Australia

Flagstaff Hill SA SOOM winners
Rosemary Underwood, John Gilleade, Chris Everett, Lyn Hood

Flagstaff Hill proved a stern test for the majority of the field in round seven of the SA Senior Order of Merit. This was reflected in only three players playing to their handicaps with many well-credentialed participants shooting in the 80s. The weather was good and the course set-up fair, but the sloping fairways, omnipresent trees and tricky greens proved too much for many. Not surprisingly, most of the better scores came from members of the “Hills clubs” rather than the “Plains” with the day’s best score turned in by the experienced Chris Everett (78) in winning the Super Seniors. Chris won from the even more experienced Michael Richards (80) followed by Lindsay Elliott and local Brian Scarman. The ever-persevering, John Gilleade was a popular winner of the Men’s Super Seniors – Gross. Richard Payne took out the senior category from Shane Amor on a count-back and Simon Norris (Links Lady Bay). Simon looks “the goods” as a significant contender but individual bad holes in his rounds to-date have derailed his campaign. Local Marty Coombe made the most of the occasion by playing to his handicap to win the Seniors Net. Rosemary Underwood took her turn for the Blackwood contingent in the Women’s comp, winning both the Gross and Net. Rosemary’s net 71 was the only one under par for the day. The series now goes into recess until August - a review of the Order of Merit Tables shows Bruce Lindner (Kooyonga) a clear leader from clubmate Richard Payne in the Seniors Gross with Craig Gordon (Tea Tree Gully) and Nigel Turner (Links Lady Bay) still very much in the hunt. Bruce also leads the combined Net from Shane Amor (Grange) and new-comer, Simon Pritchard (Mt Osmond). Super Seniors – Gross sees 3-time defending champion Mike Richards (Tea Tree Gully) leading from clubmate, Jim Richards with Ken Parker (Kooyonga), Lindsay Elliott (Blackwood) and Chris Everett (Tea Tree Gully) in contention. The Blackwood ladies dominate the Women’s OOM tables with Angela Masters a clear leader from Rosemary Underwood in the Gross with Rosemary ahead in the Nett from Paula White.
