For the third straight week Australian Brett Coletta has launched himself into contention on the secondary American Tour.

Victorian Coletta, 23, shot a second-round 65 with seven birdies to vault on to the leaderboard in the Korn Ferry Tour’s TPC San Antonio Challenge in Texas.

Coletta is tied-fifth through two rounds at nine-under overall, two shots from the lead held by American Austen Truslow and France’s Paul Barjon.

He finished tied-14th at the King and Bear championship in Florida and tied-17th at the TPC Colorado Championship at his last two starts.

Customarily the top 25 players on the Korn Ferry Tour get automatic elevation to the US PGA Tour but their status this year is unclear because of the disruptions around the Covid-19 virus.

Certainly Coletta, who is in his second year on the tour, and Western Australia’s Curtis Luck (67 today to be inside the top 20) are showing up big.

Meanwhile on the PGA Tour Jason Day is the leading Australian at four-under par, just outside the top 20, in the Workday Charity Open in Ohio.
