Century no challenge to unflappable Anne
by Golf NSW
Reaching the age of 100 is certainly worthy of a celebration; cards, cake, and a letter from the Queen, but for Concord’s Anne Burton, reaching the milestone meant hitting the course to celebrate with some of her friends at Concord Golf Club.
Anne marked the day by playing 18 holes with her daughter, Susan, and a collection of her dearest golfing friends, who celebrated the occasion with flowers on the first tee.
“It’s a bit special," Anne grinned. "Being able to come out twice a week and see people, it doesn’t feel like I’m locked down.”
Although she’s not too serious about her golf these days, Anne admitted, like most, she still gets a bit frustrated by bad golf.
“It’s hard and I’m not very good. Which is a bit annoying.”
During the COVID lockdown last year, there was a period where Anne did think her time playing the game was up. However, with the encouragement of her daughter, she resumed walking the course whenever she could. Thankfully, she can now still get out for a game.
“She gives everyone some hope for their old age," her daughter, Susan said.
