Cancelled junior interstate players recognised

The pandemic has curtailed many opportunities we once took for granted.

But Golf Australia wants to ensure that one group of people who’ve had their moment in the sun spoiled at least catch a few public rays.

GA’s high performance general manager Brad James said he wanted to publicly acknowledge all the youngsters who had previously been selected to play in this year’s now cancelled Australian Junior Interstate Series.

“It’s very important for these young athletes who have worked so hard and devoted so much time to improve to the point where they are picked to represent their state or territory,” James said.

“So while we absolutely understand that nothing can cover for the loss of the experience they would have had in Canberra and Adelaide, we just want the golf community to see their names and honour their achievement.

“There are more than a few of them we hope to see back when the tournament returns hopefully next year, but some won’t be eligible again and it’s an opportunity lost.

“Hopefully it spurs them on to have the same great achievement in open-age ranks in years to come.”

The 2020 girls’ Junior Interstate Series was to have been held at Tea Tree Gully in South Australia, while the boys’ event had been scheduled for Queanbeyan Golf Club in the ACT.
