Caleb Bovalina has survived a thrilling playoff to take out the Cobram Barooga Men’s Open Amateur alongside the Victorian Men's & Colts Country Championship played at Cobram Barooga Golf Club.

Bovalina had secured the Country titles but it was a first hole playoff against Aiden Didone which completed the clean sweep.

Bovalina produced a fantastic five-under 67 on the Old course to come from behind and claim the title.

The Cobram local kept himself alive yesterday and knew he was a chance if the putter got going today.

“I am thrilled to get the win. Conditions were tough yesterday but it was great to get it going today. My putter really struggled on day one so I knew if I could hole some putts I would be a chance.”

Didone had rounds of 72 and 69 to equal Bovalina but an unlucky lip out on the first playoff hole meant he had to settle for second.

After a disappointing first round, two-time Victorian Amateur champion Andre Lautee rounded out the top three with rounds of 76 and 70.

Daniel Gill finished in runner-up in the Men’s & Colts Championship with rounds of 73 and 73.

Cobram Barooga’s own Rowena Wallace has taken out the Women’s component of the Open Amateur with rounds of 86 and 78.

Wallace finished one ahead of Olive Spitty.
