Claremont Golf Club hosted the semi and final rounds of the Southern Country Golf Association’s RHL Roberts Memorial Trophy last Sunday.
The morning round saw the Tea Tree pairing of Paul Howard and Matthew Street defeat Kingston Beach Golf Club’s Matthew Glover and David Pretyman 3&1.
While Royal Hobart’s Joey Bower and Paul Read defeated North West Bay’s Trent Riseley and Oscar Burrell 3&2.
Morning victories ensured spots in the final for both teams which saw the lads from Seven Mile Beach claim victory over Tea Tree 3&1.
“We had a few tight matches that were all a fight to the end and it was good to get a win for Royal Hobart,” said Bower.
While Bower has never contested the event before, it was Read’s second victory having won for Tasmania while partnering Craig Christie in 2010.
“Sunday’s rounds were hard fought wins with both matches coming down to the last few holes,” said Read.
“It was a great concept this year with the qualifying round and I think this event will only grow back to where it once used to be,” said Read.
Sunday’s win by Royal Hobart is the club’s twelfth RHL Roberts Trophy title win and first since 2011.
