Big win for the "other" Richards

Long term Tea Tree Gully senior pennant player and all-round “nice guy”, Jim Richards upstaged his teammate and namesake, Mike, and all the Seniors and Super Seniors to shoot 73 in the South Lakes WyMedical Senior event at Goolwa – very nearly matching his age – Jim is about to turn 73. The course was excellently presented and the weather was “mild” for February and the usual cross breeze was up but at only around 2-clubs - locals didn’t consider it a breeze at all! An encouraging field of 26 women competed including local members plus a strong contingent from Blackwood Golf Club. The Men’s field was 36 Super Seniors and 27 Seniors. Maybe the strength in numbers prevailed as the three lowest gross scores were all Super Seniors! So – Men’s Senior Gross saw two contenders for the Order of Merit battle it out with Nigel Turner just pipping Glen McGough on a countback.

Men’s Senior Nett saw a great result with two Mt Osmond newcomers in their first SOOM event with Simon Pritchard and Andrew Curran coming in first and third, split by Shane Armor (The Grange). Those previously mentioned Super Senior Gross best performers for the day were local Brenton Hill from Lindsay Elliott, both following Jim Richards home. Super Seniors nett was a South Lakes benefit – Brenton Hill from Andy Bishop and Michael Howard. Glenda Hollis (South Lakes) took out both the Women’s Gross and Nett with other locals Dianne Traeger and Julie Crafter filling the places in both competitions.
