Barty a dab hand on golf course

World No. 1 tennis player Ash Barty has shown her prowess at golf by winning her club championship in Brisbane.
Absent from the tennis court because of the Covid-19 virus, Barty has indulged her passion for golf at Brookwater Golf Club.
She qualified for the women’s club championship final as the top seed after rounds of 77 and 80, then took out the final 7 and 5 having dominated the semi-final, winning with five holes spare.
Barty’s boyfriend Garry Kissick is a trainee professional at Brookwater and she has had a love of the game for some time.
Her swing certainly impressed Louis Dobbelaar, who won the men’s championship at Brookwater. “She’s got all the tools if she wants to pursue it. If she put her mind to it, I’m sure she could,” Dobbelaar told Australian Associated Press.
“I’ve seen quite a lot of golfers come from different sports and she’s the one that stands out the most – by far actually. Her ball-striking’s really good. She just gets that naturally from tennis, the hand-eye stuff.”
Barty also played cricket in the Women’s Big Bash League with Brisbane Heat.
She has not played in a tennis tournament since February, although she has retained her world No. 1 ranking.
