MyGolf Sporting Schools has reached 50,000 participants across 2020-2021 for the very first time since its inception in 2015.

Over 550 programs were delivered nationally, despite lockdowns across Victoria preventing any programs from going ahead in the state for the entirety of term 3, 2020.

Schools are eligible to apply for Sporting Schools funding through Sport Australia each term and if successful can select a program offering from 37 sports. It is evident that over the past year, the flexible and socially distanced nature of the MyGolf program was an obvious choice for many schools.

The goal now is to capitalise on the covid induced boom of golf in the Sporting Schools space and ensure the participants have a place to go to keep their swing going.

Southern Cross Catholic College in Townsville, Queensland, is one school ensuring this transpires. The school took part in four MyGolf Sporting Schools programs across each of the terms, all delivered by local PGA Professionals.

HPE teacher and School Ambassador, Katrina Bennett said, “I originally chose MyGolf as I was looking for a different sport to appeal to students who don’t like team sports.”

“We continue to book MyGolf as the deliverers are amazing and the students love when it’s their turn to try golf.”

Katrina actively promotes the local MyGolf programs at Townsville and The Tropics Golf Clubs to parents through the school’s social media and online communication portals.

“It is very important that students and parents are aware of the pathway to the local MyGolf program. Our school has had several students go to the local MyGolf program and they were more confident about doing it because they had participated in MyGolf through Sporting Schools,” she said.

There has since been 20 MyGolf registrations from Southern Cross students and to say thanks, Katrina was rewarded through the School Ambassador incentive program.
