More than 100 of Victorian golf’s most generous contributors enjoyed a fabulous day on course at Thirteenth Beach today as part of Golf Australia and Apia’s 2022 Vic Open Volunteer Appreciation Day.

As part of National Volunteer Week, we love to take the opportunity to thank, in some small way, the outstanding contribution our volunteers make to events such as the Vic Open – they are the heart and soul of any successful golf tournament, with no task too big or small.

The Vic Open boasted more than 270 volunteers, spanning all corners of Victoria, with even a smattering of interstaters among them.

Approximately 20 per cent of the volunteer base came from host club Thirteenth Beach, and in a fun fact, there were 17 separate Peter’s assigned to many roles throughout the week.

Meanwhile earlier today Suzanne Dixon of Latrobe Golf Club had a super day out with 41 points to win the women’s event from Sue McNally (Yarra Bend Golf Club) with 33 points.

There was also some great scoring in the men’s event, Bendigo visitor Ross Johnson with 38 points managed to hold off Thirteenth Beach local Doug Willis with 37 points.

The next big event for our volunteer base will be the joint Men’s and Women’s Australian Opens to be held concurrently at Victoria and Kingston Heath Golf Clubs from 1-4 December. To register your interest please send a brief email to E: AOvolunteers@golf.org.au
