Jeneath Wong has continued her red hot form at Metropolitan GC, adding another three trophies to her collection.

The sun shone bright this morning for the field of 68 women who teed it up for the 2018 edition of the Joan Fisher Plate, which incorporates the Victorian Women’s Champion of Champions title.

The Joan Fisher Plate was first played in 1989 and was initiated by Val Maine, the Metropolitan GC women’s captain (1986-88), in honour of Mrs Joan Fisher who joined the club in 1939 and was one of Australia’s prominent female golfers.

The Victorian Champions of Champions Trophy was first contested in 1929 and invites club, district and state champions to come together and compete for the coveted title.

In 2016 with the appreciated support of the Metropolitan GC, both longstanding events combined to create this hybrid women’s state championship.

14- year old Wong carded an impressive 72 this morning, highlighted by three straight birdies through holes 14-16.

The current club champion at Metropolitan GC could not be chased down in the afternoon, holding her nerve to shoot a 79 in round 2 despite teeing off from the wrong tee box on the 10th hole.

The mature performance from Wong saw her sweep the prize table with wins in the Joan Fisher Plate, Victorian Women’s Champion of Champions and the Gwenda Anderson Trophy awarded to the best 18-hole nett score.

2017 champion Kono Matsumoto claimed the runner-up prize in the Joan Fisher Plate, finishing 5 shots back on a total of 156.

Trinity Francis was awarded the best 36-hole nett prize with her total of 154 off a handicap of 7.

The Huntingdale member finished 1 shot clear of Victoria’s Ashni Solanki.

Golf Victoria and Metropolitan Golf Club appreciate the support from all players and look forward to hosting again in 2019.
